Dr.  Basem looks at one of the greatest women companions of the Prophet Muhammed, Um Sulema and how she sacrificed the lives of her children for the Prophet. He goes onto another very close companion, Sayyidena Anas who was one of the scribes of the Prophet.

These mini talks are given in between the Taraweeh prayers every night at the mosque.

This Kathira was full of moving stories that are sure to bring tears to your eyes as it brought tears to the brothers and sisters at the mosque that night. You will hear some emotional stories of the unwavering love of some of the Tabiyeen of the Prophet Muhammed and how his mercy was reflected on his companions.

We will hear the stories of a companion called Sayyidina Thauban who was a slave and went through torture after been kidnapped during a battle and still refused to give up on his love for the Prophet Muhammed. We will also hear about the love of the prophet by another former slave and probably the greatest Muaddin in Islamic history, Sayyidina Bilal.

These mini talks are given in between the Taraweeh prayers every night at the mosque.

Tonight is the first in the series of moving lectures on the trully inspirational Companions of the Prophet Muhammed.
Dr. Basem starts off with a quick reminder on staying steadfast in your fasting and other recommended acts of worship because the doors of Janna are still open and to hope for Allah’s mercy as we approach one third of Ramadan. We will hear of the story of how a poor companion of Prophet Muhammed  was praised by Allah in the Quran. We will hear one of the best stories of charity by this companion that Allah personally accepted through angel Gibreel. It gives us hope that wealth is not the only way of giving Sadaqa in Allah’s sake. Dr. Basem closed out the lecture with a poignant reminder of how we Muslims in the US have been chosen to carry his message, Alhamdulillah.

Dr. Basem starts this lecture showing us the blessings bestowed on us by Allah and the challenges that are faced by many people all over the world to satisfy their basic needs. We will also hear about the importance of Sadaqa in Prophet Muhammed time and his companions time and how they gave all for the sake of Allah. Dr. Basem leaves us with some practical points of Sadaqa that we should follow starting this Ramadan and beyond.

Pot luck    Assalamu Alaikum Brothers and Sisters

    Happy Ramadan Mubarak to all of you.

    Here’s a great opportunity for you to increase the kinship and unity between Muslims this Ramadan!! 

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever gives food to a fasting person with which to break his fast, will have a reward equal to his, without it detracting in the slightest from the reward of the fasting person.” (Reported by al-Tirmidhi, 3/171; Saheeh al-Targheeb, 1/451).  

Since the patrons of our mosque are from such diverse and multi cultural backgrounds and since its the once-a-year Ramadan season, we have decided to open the floor to all of you to share in your favorite dishes from your respective countries and cultures.We are talking about dishes like the mouth watering Moroccon and Libyan Couscous dishes, yummy Laksa soup  from Malaysia, the delicious Biryani from India and Pakistan  and the Shish Kebabs from Turkey just to name a few. You get the idea right??

So.….,you are warmly invited to show case your delicious ethnic dishes in all shapes and sizes at our daily Ifthar at the Yusuf Mosque. You also get to enjoy and get to know other ethnic dishes and cultures that Allah(SWT) has blessed all of us with at least once a year. No need for prior notice, just bring it in !!
